SPCC GALA AND INAUGURAL HONORARY SERVICE AWARD

Our 2026 SPCC Gala is set for Saturday, March 14, 2026. Join us for an unforgettable evening of community celebration, delicious food, exciting entertainment, and meaningful connection.

The South Pasadena Chinese-American Club is also thrilled to announce we will be hosting Honorary Service Awards (HSA) to be presented at the SPCC gala. The upcoming March Gala 2026 will be the inaugural year for our HSA. Recognizing outstanding volunteer contributions to the South Pasadena community through service under SPCC,  the award highlights exceptional dedication to the events and activities that SPCC hosts each year.

The first ever SPCC Honorary Service Award will be presented to Shireen Chang who is a former Board Member, former President, and part of a group of past Board Members who affectionately call themselves the SPiCCy Mamas because SPCC is still important to them. We are grateful for all the ways that Shireen continues to contribute to SPCC.

Please join us at the March Gala to thank our first ever SPCC HSA honoree, Shireen Chang.

LUNAR NEW YEAR LUNCHEON

Happy Lunar New Year!

We are delighted to share the success of our Lunar New Year Senior Luncheon hosted by SPCC in partnership with South Pasadena Senior Center on 2/10/2026.We welcomed 120 seniors, along with several local officials, to celebrate this annual event together.

Seniors enjoyed the cultural dances performed by We Dance Studio and wonderful songs by Calvin Joe, cousin of Bob Joe. The live entertainment filled the room with energy and laughter.

I chatted with a few seniors and they shared how much they loved this annual luncheon, the performances and delicious food. A few were so impressed that they visited our caterer afterwards to order meals for themselves!

We would like to extend our appreciation to Shireen Chang for once again coordinating the dancers for our event.  Our sincere thanks also go to Peitty’s family for generously providing fresh hand picked cuties for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you to all our volunteers for your help and support in making this event a success.

Wishing you all a joyful and healthy Year of the Horse!

marengo lunar new year event

SPCC joined the community in celebrating the new year at Marengo Elementary School’s Lunar New Year event at Orange Grove Park on Sunday, February 22nd. Participants followed a trail map to visit booths sponsored by the Mandarin Dual Immersion classes and other local groups. Each booth highlighted an animal from the Chinese Zodiac and had a cultural activity. Over 450 trail maps were distributed.

Attendees at the SPCC booth received a Fire Horse LNY coloring page, a rabbit stamp on their trail map, and played with mahjong tiles.

Kids won a mahjong eraser when they put together a “pung” or “chow.”

The entertainment line up included a lion dance, face changing performance, dancers, USC Taekwondo club breaking boards, and an incredible singer who performed Mandarin and English songs from Crazy Rich Asians and engaged the crowd to sing along.

LEARN AND PLAY MAHJONG EVENT

In January, SPCC partnered with 626 Village, a local nonprofit supporting senior adults, to host a Learn and Play Mahjong event. Over twenty guests gathered to play mahjong, from new players to seasoned players. Volunteers guided new players through a few rounds of play, offering strategy tips and answering questions.
